Name of the Instrument: Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF)
Make: Hitachi High-Tech Analytical Science Ltd.
 Model:  OXFORD X-SUPREME 8000
Working Principles: X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) works based on principle that when exposed to X-rays of a specified higher energy, any element will produce a signature secondary fluorescent X-rays with its characteristic energy levels. This is detected with specific types of detectors which can detect the energy and intensity of emitted X-rays from a matrix. Higher the atomic weight of an element, more amount energy is needed to elicit the fluorescence. Using standard reference materials, calibration may be carried out and grain sample micro-nutrient concentration can be estimated from blind samples.
Application/Scope: Estimation of Iron (Fe) and Zinc (Zn) concentrations in whole rice grain samples. Three different calibrations are available.
Sample Requirement: 50g Brown rice
Charges: Brown rice-Rs. 470, Milled rice-Rs.690 per sample
